Dr Pal has warned that bitter lauki, or bottle gourd, juice can cause severe vomiting and gastrointestinal bleeding due to cucurbitacin, a toxic compound. Recalling a patient who vomited blood after consuming the juice, he stressed that cooking does not destroy the toxin. Tahira Kashyap, wife of Ayushmann Khurrana, also shared her bottle gourd toxicity experience in 2021 after being admitted to the ICU.
