Reading the news

Where does The Headline Update’s news come from?

We list reports from established Indian and international publishers through news APIs and publisher RSS feeds, and we write our own explainers. Every story shows the original publisher and links to the full report, so you can always check the source.

How often is the site updated?

The news engine refreshes several times a day, and the breaking ticker always shows the newest headlines first. Stories stay on the site for 30 days; our explainers stay permanently and are updated when facts change.

What does “Reported by 3 outlets” mean?

When different publishers independently report the same story, we group them and show the count with links. More independent coverage is a useful sign that a story is real — it is not a guarantee, which is why we always link the originals.

Can I read news only from my state?

Yes. There is a page for each of the 28 states and 8 union territories. Stories are tagged by the places they mention, so a report on Guwahati appears on the Assam page.

Is The Headline Update free to read?

Yes. There is no paywall, no login and no app to install. The site is funded by clearly labelled advertising.

Corrections & complaints

I spotted a mistake. How do I report it?

Email corrections@theheadlineupdate.com with the page link and what is wrong. We review every request within 48 hours and add a dated correction note to the page when we change something.

How do I file a grievance under the IT Rules, 2021?

Write to our Grievance Officer, Nandini Rao, at grievance@theheadlineupdate.com. We acknowledge within 24 hours and decide within 15 days, as required for digital news publishers.

Can you remove a story about me?

Tell us why through the contact form or the grievance email. For aggregated stories, the original article belongs to its publisher, so we will also tell you whom to contact there. We remove or correct our own pages when there is a legal or factual reason to.

Contributing

Can I write for The Headline Update?

Yes — contributions are open. Send story tips, ground reports from your area, explainers on a subject you know well, or photos you have taken yourself. Use the contribution form on the About page.

Will my identity be protected?

If you ask for anonymity, only the editor will know who you are, and we will never publish your contact details. We may still need to verify your information independently before publishing.

Do you pay contributors?

Commissioned explainers and ground reports carry an honorarium agreed before you start. Tips, letters and unsolicited pieces are unpaid, but always credited unless you ask otherwise.

Advertising

How much does advertising cost?

Prices start at ₹49 a day for a sidebar box. The final amount depends on the placement, the number of days and whether you want the spot to yourself. The calculator on our Advertise page shows the exact total before you pay.

How soon does my ad go live?

On your chosen start date, once payment is confirmed and your banner passes our quick review. Bookings can start from tomorrow; most ads are approved within a few working hours.

Can I target one state or one category?

Yes. Choose the whole website, the homepage only, a single news category or a single state’s pages when you book. The price per day stays the same.

What ad sizes and file types do you accept?

JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 150 KB, in the size listed for each placement. No banner yet? Add our design service at checkout and we will make one for you.

What ads do you refuse?

Betting and gambling, adult content, tobacco and surrogate alcohol ads, unregistered investment schemes, miracle cures and anything illegal in India. Political ads during elections need Election Commission pre-certification and are labelled as such.

Payments & refunds

How can I pay?

UPI, debit and credit cards, net banking and popular wallets through our RBI-authorised payment partner. We never see or store your card details.

Is GST charged?

No. We are not registered under GST at present, so the price you see is the full amount you pay, with no tax added.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes. Cancel more than 48 hours before your start date for a full refund, or within 48 hours for a 90% refund. Once a campaign is live it cannot be cancelled for a refund, except when we fail to deliver it as booked.

How long do refunds take?

We start the refund within 2 working days of approving it. The money reaches your original payment method within 5–7 working days, depending on your bank.

Will I get an invoice?

Yes, an invoice is emailed within 24 hours of payment, along with a link to your live ad on its first day.

Privacy & your data

What happens to the details I send through forms?

They are stored on our own server in a file that is blocked from public access, used only to reply to you or deliver your booking, and never sold.

Do you use tracking cookies?

No. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers. Your browser stores only small preferences, such as having closed the cookie notice.

How do I get my data deleted?

Email contact@theheadlineupdate.com from the address you used and we will delete your submissions within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as invoices.
