Editorial & Corrections Policy

How we choose sources, label what you read, correct mistakes and handle complaints.

Our standards

  • Attribution: every aggregated story names its original publisher and links to it.
  • Accuracy: summaries must not change the meaning of the original report.
  • Independence: advertisers and sponsors have no say over what we cover or how.
  • Fairness: we avoid sensational wording and never edit headlines to mislead.
  • Privacy and dignity: we do not identify minors or survivors of sexual violence, and we take extra care with stories about suicide, health and grief.

Where our news comes from

Aggregated reports come from established news organisations and official sources, gathered through news APIs and the publishers’ own RSS feeds. We remove sources that repeatedly publish false or misleading material. Original explainers are researched by our desk from primary sources such as laws, government notifications and official data.

How content is labelled

Aggregated stories show “Reported by” and the publisher’s name. Original guides are labelled “Explainer”. Advertising is labelled “Advertisement” or “Sponsored” and is never presented as news. When several outlets report the same story, we show how many and link to each.

Corrections

To report an error, email corrections@theheadlineupdate.com with the page link and what is wrong. We review every request within 48 hours. When we change a summary or an explainer, we add a dated correction note at the end of the page. If the error is in the original publisher’s report, we tell you whom to contact and may remove our summary until it is resolved.

Code of Ethics

As a publisher of news and current affairs content, we follow the Code of Ethics under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including the Norms of Journalistic Conduct of the Press Council of India and the Programme Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, and we do not publish content prohibited by law.

  2. Level II — self-regulating body: if you are not satisfied, you may appeal to the self-regulating body of publishers provided for under the Rules.
